Taunsa Barrage

Located about 40 kms from Taunsa city, Taunsa Barrage
falls in district Muzzafargarh. It is built on the river Indus. Every
winters, Taunsa barrage and its surrounding wetlands attract hundreds of
thousands of migrant ducks and other waterfowl which spend the winter
here. The surrounding jungles are home to many more resident and
wintering species. Taunsa barrage is home to a large number of
passerines which can be seen here almost any time here.
Although the total number of bird species seen here have
never been estimated, yet
many rare birds seen here have been documented. Just recently, the very
rare and endangered Jerdon's Babbler has been rediscovered in Punjab by
a photographer G R Mughal at Taunsa Barrage. Below is a small list of
some rare birds and near endemics that could reasonably be expected in
the vicinity of Taunsa Barrage.
