Bird Specialties of Pakistan

By BCP members Muhammad Saad N Qaisrani and Nausherwan Sarshar Ahmed

White-cheeked Tit:

This small Tit closely resembles the Black-throated Tit and the White-throated Tit. Like the Black-throated Tit it has a Black throat, but the head pattern is different. The White-throated Tit can be distinguished because of it having a totally white throat as compared to the black throat of this Tit.

Habitat:
To be added.

Red Data Status:
Unspecified.

World Distribution:
The White-cheeked Tit's global distribution is restricted to 2 countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan. In Afghanistan the White-cheeked Tit occurs only in the north-eastern corner in Nuristan. However the bird is much commoner in Pakistan than it is in India. Historically it has occurred in Indian Kashmir, but its survival in Indian Kashmir is doubtful. Globally, the best place to see this bird is doubtlessly Pakistan.

Distribution in Pakistan:
In Pakistan it occurs in the Juniper forest zone of Baluchistan. It is plentiful in Zhob District. It occurs in lower Chitral, Waziristan and the lower slopes of Safed Koh Range. It also occurs in Kalam and Ushu in Swat Kohistan. It is also found in Gilgit. Finally, a small population is resident in the Margalla Hills National Park, Islamabad.

Places to See White-cheeked Tit:
The best place to see this specie in Pakistan is Margalla Hills National Park. It is also
quite common in Zhob, Baluchistan.
