Injured snow leopard dies after being caught

SKARDU, Feb 27: A snow leopard that entered a village on Saturday morning in search of food was caught by the villagers and handed over to the wildlife department in injured condition. The animal, however, died six hours later, it was learnt.

Eyewitnesses told Dawn that the snow leopard had been creating panic in Manthal village for the last one week by entering the village in search of food, and had killed a number of cattle heads.

On Saturday, the snow leopard again entered the village at about 9am on Saturday. However, after seeing the villagers the leopard ran away and hid behind the bushes in nearby fields. The villagers informed authorities of wildlife department who could not catch the leopard because of non-availability of proper equipment.

In the meantime, a brave local young man caught the snow leopard with the help of a rope. He villagers handed over the snow leopard to wildlife authorities in the presence of police and a large number of people.

Later, it was learnt that the snow leopard died in the custody of the forest department. — Correspondent

dont shoot and caught the snow leapord…more,conserve the snow leaport for the betterment of wildlife in pakistan…thanks
